Sailboat racing The Morgan is a larger boat, longer, wider and heavier than the Catalina. The Morgan was built in the 70’s when the boat had to perform for sailors, the Catalina was built for a special market. I think Frank was lucky the boat performs as well as it does. Looks like the Portsmouth rating is very close. Morgan built 22, 24, 25, 28, 30, 34, 38, 41 foot models of the successful keel-centerboard design in production numbers. The CCA-influenced boats are narrower in beam and the accomodations are more cramped than later boats, but in my opinion are the better sailing boats.

About this Sailboat:

Shoal keel, 1.80′ draft with board up, 4.92′ down.
Previously was only sailed in fresh water.

Have never sailed this boat, have owned it since 2004. Scrubbed it up after purchase, then parked it in the barn under a tarp. Unfortunately, there are no boat launches deep enough for the initial launch on our lake and no marina with a hoist so we can’t put in on our lake.

Morgan 28 Sailboat Review

Purchased a Morgan because they’re supposed to be very forgiving for beginners. With the shoal keel, you can pull up the centerboard and draft under 2 feet, getting close to shore for exploring.

Equipment on Board:

Includes tandem axle trailer with newer tires and all sails, rigging, sail bags, cushions, small propane stove, built in fiberglass sink, dinette table.

Boat is clean but older. It’s not been abused but will need to be checked over for leaks, etc before taking out. Needs new front hatch, or at least needs wood replaced around it.
