I have carefully placed together all of the latest Yamaha Genos (Tyros 6) keyboard information together, so you can view all the important titbits all in one place I will add to these details as more is revealed, but please note I will only detail official information so we can be sure of its accuracy – as well as a few logical guesses.

The Yamaha TYROS 5 is a special keyboard, and another installment to the Yamaha Tyros series, which is known to be one of the most premium and spectacular series of synthesizers there has ever been. I had the privilege to test out both the 61 and 76 key variations, and I must say they were both spectacular. There are going to be different uses for the keyboards and whether you get the larger variation will depend on personal preference and consideration of what the synthesizer will be mainly used as. Typically those who use the Yamaha TYROS 5 do it at a professional level, and some coming in at an amateur level. It isn’t the perfect beginner synth, and it is not an experimentation/toy synthesizer to play around with like how the OP-1 is perceived as. It is a very serious synthesizer used by professionals; in that way it’s kind of like the Yamaha Montage 8, but somehow even more high-tech.

User Interface/Style

The layout and interface on the Yamaha TYROS 5 is possibly the best that I have ever seen, hands down. The spacing is perfect, the layout is clear and easy to understand, and the large, adjustable tablet screen is truly amazing, and it’s something you will not see on many other instruments. Really, I don’t look too much into this category but I had to make a point of how amazed I was because the keyboard UI is likely the best you will get. The style is great too; Yamaha’s TYROS 5 is slim, elegant, and unique. Though it is sold in only one color variation, it is a great option – matte gray.

Yamaha Tyros 6 Release

This is a category that most people pay a little bit less attention to because most perceive it as less important – sometimes it is but you truly get the opportunity to appreciate beauty with this synthesizer keyboard. If you get the chance, I highly recommend checking this keyboard out in person because it is a wonder to see it’s grace in person.

Sounds

Because it uses a similar synthetic engine, the sound quality will be parallel with that of those in the Montage series also made by Yamaha, such as the six and the eight. This means that you get a great and fulfilling sound output from the instruments in the TYROS series, and you probably won’t have any complaints with the keyboard as far as sounds go. It is up there with the best if we’re talking about quality and variety. It was pretty shocking to see that there was even more variation when it came to features than even many 88-key synths such as the Krome, which is universally viewed as one of the greatest synths in its category, one step below the Kronos. The flute, guitar, piano, organ, and dozens of others sound delightful to the ear through the synthetic engine. It has even been said by some owners of the instrument that once you spoil your ears with the Yamaha TYROS 5, you will be unable to go back to any previous synthesizer, as you will realize how superior the sound quality is on the TYROS.

Features

The Yamaha TYROS 5 is VERY feature heavy, and comes with a ton of capabilities. Here are just some of the things you’ll get with this synthesizer:

  • An outstanding performance keyboard, with authentic sounds, effects, realistic accompaniment
  • Ensemble Voices authentically recreate the sound of horn, string and woodwind ensembles
  • Audio Styles feature audio recordings of drum and percussion parts played by top session players
  • Super Articulation 2 (SA2) Voices allow the player to get realistic expressive nuances of non-keyboard instruments, such as a flute or guitar
  • Right-hand style control allows you to determine the accompaniment chords/harmony in the right-hand split zone, freeing you to play bass parts manually with your left hand

As you can see, a lack of things to try and explore won’t be a problem if you do decide to purchase this keyboard. Similarly to the other high-end options by Yamaha, functionality, features, and sound quality are at the top of the relevance and importance list.

Tyros 5

Overall – Is The Yamaha TYROS 5 Worth It?

Yamaha

There’s no denying that the Yamaha TYROS 5 is a special synth keyboard, and even the current price is justified by the quality of the instrument. If I had to pick one top rated synth to play professionally with, it would come down to either the Montage 8 or the 76-key variant of the TYROS 5. I was bugged out at first that there isn’t an 88-key option to go with, but I soon realized that this 76-key synth was sufficient in doing what I needed to do. There is more than enough flexibility with this instrument and all the pieces mesh very well together.

If money were no issue, this is definitely a top 5, maybe a top 3 synthesizer in the world right now, strictly from a performance perspective. The others would be the likes of the Kronos and maybe one of the more high end options by Roland, and you certainly can’t dismiss the Montage. There are many great boards to buy, but this pushes the envelope of what a great synthesizer is. Check out the Yamaha TYROS 5 today.
